Updated DPIA and Initial Assessment based on ICO’s checklist
Publishing date: March 2024
We’re excited to announce a significant update to our Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) module, now enhanced with an Initial Assessment step based on the ICO's (Information Commissioner’s Office) checklist. The ICO is the UK’s independent regulatory office for data protection, equivalent to "Datatilsynet" in Denmark, and their guidelines play a crucial role in shaping GDPR compliance.
Why this update matters
As part of our ongoing commitment to improving your data protection workflows, we’ve integrated the ICO's 7-step DPIA process directly into our module. This update includes a new initial assessment step, designed to help you determine whether a full DPIA is necessary based on the checklist provided by the ICO. By including this critical step, we’re enabling you to make informed decisions about your data processing activities early in the process, ensuring greater efficiency and compliance.
What’s new in this update?
-
Initial Assessment step (based on ICO’s Checklist)
The newly added Initial Assessment step is an integral part of our DPIA module, providing guidance on whether a full DPIA is required for your processing activities. By following the ICO’s recommendations, this step helps you quickly assess whether a DPIA is needed or if other measures are sufficient. -
Clear overview of DPIA status
We’ve streamlined the overview of your DPIAs, allowing you to quickly scan and filter your DPIAs to check whether they require action. This will make it easier for you to see the status of each DPIA and identify where further attention is needed. -
Guiding texts based on ICO’s recommendations
Based on your answers to the Initial Assessment questions, we provide helpful guiding texts that support your decision-making process. These texts are tailored according to the ICO’s guidance, ensuring that you are fully informed about whether a full DPIA is necessary. -
Multiple risks per DPIA
We’ve made it possible to add multiple risks within a single DPIA. This feature enables you to assess and mitigate risks independently, giving you more flexibility and a better understanding of the specific risks tied to each aspect of your processing activities. -
Reporting based on ICO’s template
The reporting functionality has been enhanced to reflect the structure and format of the ICO’s DPIA template, ensuring consistency with regulatory expectations. You’ll be able to generate reports that clearly reflect your process, making compliance reporting easier and more transparent.
How does this help you?
With the new Initial Assessment step, you can now streamline your compliance process by making quicker, more accurate decisions about your need for a full DPIA.
Additionally, the ability to assess and mitigate multiple risks within the same DPIA offers a more detailed and effective risk management process.
